Because when you stop and look around, this life is pretty amazing.”
For the majority of my life, I have been a ‘look at my feet when I walk’ kinda person … guilty of focusing down or just ahead, on where I am going and not the journey.
When I moved to New York, things changed a little. It was a sensory overload, and I wanted to soak it all in! Much like the tourists we see here every day, I spent those first few months with my chin up, eyes wide, and mouth slightly agape. This city was awe-inspiring. I was in LOVE.
As time passes for most New Yorkers, the novelty of this city can wear off. We hunker down for our daily grind, and go back to looking at our feet. We groan when see tourists (stopped in the middle of the sidewalk, snapping away at the buildings we pass every day) and quickly walk around them.
Life becomes too busy…
…so we stop looking up.
I’m certain that this blog has saved me from the ho-hum fate of my fellow New Yorkers. Having a creative outlet has opened my eyes to the surroundings. I look up, and around me, for inspirations every day … constantly seeking out the innate beauty of this city, and of life.
Because of this, I have learned to better love life. I remain a tourist in my own city. Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, I wake up every morning to see what surprises New York has in store.
It’s amazing what you notice when you just look.
