It’s true, you’re more likely to find me drinking vodka lemonades while watching golf, than sipping bourbon while watching horse racing … but what girl doesn’t love an excuse to get dolled up in her “Kentucky” best?!
This past Saturday, Peter and I were invited to a Toyota Blue Grass Stakes Watch Party, hosted by America’s Best Racing. Attendees were encouraged to wear their biggest hats and boldest bow ties, and watch the centuries’ old tradition of horse racing.
Since my knowledge of the sport was minimal a best, I figured I should start by looking the part. When I think of equestrian style, I think of class, sophistication, and elegance — the epitome of ladylike lovely. I decided to add a little playful twist by picking a flowier dress. And of course, I couldn’t forget my hat!
I had even more fun at the event than I had getting dressed! We sipped on bourbon, listened to a live bluegrass band and learned a thing or two about the art of horse betting. Who knew it could be fun (and a little addicting?!)
The more I learn about horse racing, the more I think I could get into this. I mean, a sporting event that combines high fashion, cocktails, and a little harmless betting? What’s not to like?
Now its time to get out to the tracks!
