Don’t Beat Yourself Up – Get Out of Your Black and Blue Rut

Four years ago, my wardrobe consisted of black … lots and lots of black … with a little navy … and more black. Yes, black is classic, and appropriate for almost every occasion. Yes, black is a slimming color, and feels safe. But black can also be kinda depressing, at least in large doses.

Over the years, I’ve opened my eyes to color, realizing that black isn’t the only slimming tool out there. You don’t have to hide behind black layers – quite the contrary! You can wear the brightest, boldest shade of canary yellow if you want, as long as you pick the right pieces for your body type – pieces that accentuate your assets while hiding your work-in-progress areas.

Take today’s outfit for example. This paisley skirt is not a shy print by any means. The red, blue and white combo is an automatic eye-catcher. By pairing it with this white peplum top, I’m emphasizing the smallest part of my waist while simultaneously highlighting the curve of my hips. Sure this skirt is pretty form-fitting, but by styling it with top that is equal parts flowy and fitted, I’ve created an outfit I can really feel confident in.

Stop hiding behind black and blue … Be confident. Be bold. Finding great pieces for your body type is the best way to feel like a rock star. And confidence, is the best accessory to any outfit.
