For one week every fall and spring, New York is bustling with some of the most fashionable people in the world. Well, that’s every week, but this particular week even normal “New York chic” isn’t nearly enough.
The world’s most forward-thinking and fashionable people, the trend-setters and king-makers, fly in from far and wide to show off their best looks, and to take in the hottest designer shows. As a blogger (and now New Yorker), I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t dying to be a part of the madness that is New York Fashion Week. And this year…I got my wish.
I’m sure you’ve got a lot of questions running through your mind, so let me get some quick points across.
- Fact: The struggle to find something to wear is real. And my bedroom looks like a tornado tore through it.
- Fact: I felt very inadequate about my wardrobe after spending about 5 minutes in the Pavilion.
- Fact: I saw celebrities.
- Fact: The shows are really only about 10 minutes long.
- Fact: It was everything I hoped it would be and more.
The shows may only last about 10-15 minutes, but the REAL show takes place in the Pavilion before and after. Prada, Louboutin, Chanel, Celine, Dior, YSL. You name it, someone was wearing it, and I was swooning over it.
I may not own any couture (yet), but I did want to put my best foot forward for fashion week, so I set aside about five or six of my best looks for the occasion.
For day one, I went with flirty and fun. It may be fall, but NY has been 90+ degrees and humid. I opted for a romper with this playful print, and dressed it up with a pair of impulse-buy T-strap pumps and some gold accessories. The blue bag adds a fun pop of color. With an outfit this busy, you don’t want the bag to be too matchy-matchy; you want something that can stand on its own, but not distract from the statement piece. On the other hand, the necklace works with the romper to add some interesting texture, while again not distracting from the print.
Day One was the perfect opening act for what’s been a crazy week so far! I met some of my blogger babes for Elaine Turner‘s event at her Madison Avenue store (more on this later in the week), and then headed cross town to the Lincoln Center for my first runway show. Of course — because New York isn’t a small enough world — I ran into a few more blogger beauties there and got to catch my first runway show, full of the gorgeous metallics and neutrals of Meskita‘s spring/summer collection.
With all that said, I think my favorite part so far has been bonding with my new gal pals. Here a few snaps from the day one festivities:
