I know. Who am I, right? Crop tops and leather shorts? Sure, this is a little deviation from my norm. But what can I say, there’s something in the air during Fashion Week. Something besides just humidity.
It may be September, but until yesterday it’s been 90+ degress here in New York. Sweat is not my favorite accessory, especially when I’m trying to look my best in front of fashion’s elite, so this crop top and shorts was a perfect down time look. Rather than running around like a hot mess in my cute rompers and midi skirts, I opted for an outfit with a little less material. It was either this, or busting out a swim suit and diving into the Lincoln Center fountain.
It’s outside the norm for me to show this much skin, and with the leather shorts and crop top, it would have seemed pretty aggressive to the 2011-version of me. But why spend so much time at the gym to not show off a little now and then? Plus, it’s Fashion Week, it’s about taking risks and pushing your boundaries. It’s a risk I’m glad I took.
This crop top, much like the romper, was another example of my “passive trend observance turned obsession.” I think I bought my first one, and then three more in the next two days. Whoops! I liked this one in particular because the black and white pattern would add interest to an outfit, without being too overpowering.
I went out on a big limb, and paired it with my leather shorts — shorts which had been sitting in my closet, tag still on, since Black Friday. I cant wait to wear these shorts with tights and boots as the weather gets cooler, but for now, I’m soaking up the last few days of warmth!
Black, white and red would be my uniform for the next few days of NYFW. You really just can’t go wrong with that combo. Stay tuned for more looks from the week…but for now, keep following along on Instagram!
