Transitioning from Summer to Fall ~ Mini Midi

Do these petite midi skirts have a name yet? They are like the kid sister of the midi – with that same flattering waistline (that cinches you at your smallest point) and a more playful length. From now on I’ll be calling it the mini midi. Ok? Ok.

The midi skirt, and its “mini me”, have been a HUGE trend for the summer. And if you’re like me, you’ve probably bought like 15 of them. But just because the weather has started to cool off, doesn’t mean you need to pack all your new pretty skirts away! No trend deserves to live for only one season (well, besides the trends that never should’ve lived at all – I’m lookin’ at you gouchos) So let’s get some legs out of your midis and minis (see what I did there), and style them for this fall weather we’re having.

All week I’ve been talking about a core of six fall staples – these are items almost everyone has in their wardrobe and make it easy to transition outfits from summer to autumn. I grabbed three of these essentials when styling this skirt today: tights, booties, and a scarf. And just like that, I’m fall-ready!

Tights are a vital accessory for fall. For one, they hide my now-pale legs from the world. But more importantly, they keep you warm on those crisp autumn days, while still showing off your legs! But real talk – tights also smooth you out in all the right places. Tights #FTW.

Booties are another great way to dip your feet (pun intended) into fall. Without having to bust out a full riding boot, you’re able to give your look a natural autumn feel. I opted for a heeled bootie rather than a wedge to keep my look dressier yet still chic.

I don’t know about you, but I have about 25-too-many scarves in my possession. They are my single most important fall must have, and essentially replace necklaces for three months of my year. Even though I darkened my look for the season by wearing mostly black, I still wanted the floral to pop. By adding a little pink around my neck, the skirt really came alive, and it allowed me to cozy up a little bit for the chill in the air.

After four transition posts, I should be hearing no excuses out of you all! Staring into your closet with nothing to wear is not an option in the morning. Get creative with your summer favorites and find ways to make them multi-seasonal! There is no right or wrong time to wear your clothes. What’s wrong is not trying!
