It’s that time of my life — all of my best friends are getting married, and I’m on perpetual bridesmaid duty. Last year I was in three weddings in two months! I don’t have a closet full of dresses like Jane in 27 Dresses, but I’m getting there. Real talk for a second – no one in New York has a SPARE closet as big as hers in that movie. LIES!
The drill is the same for each wedding: buy an overpriced dress, wear it once, spill a little wine on it while you’re tearing up the dance floor, dry clean it, and then to the back of the closet it goes!! No matter how many times I’ve heard “you could totally wear this again”, I never have.
Well that doesn’t have to be the case! Today I’ve teamed up with Shabby Apple and my two blogger besties to throw a faux wedding, and show you that with a little creativity, your bridesmaid dress can live beyond the wedding day. And I don’t mean haphazardly waking up in the dress the next day either.
By adding a pop of pink and some party jewels, I gave my dress a preppy uptown twist. You can introduce almost any bright color to compliment the navy, creating a color-blocked look that’s perfect for day or night!
Dress: Shabby Apple c/o // Jacket: Express (similar) // Necklace: Viva La Jewels (similar) // Shoes: BCBGeneration (love these) // Watch: Marc Jacobs // Bracelets: effYbee (1, 2), Stella & Dot (1, 2, 3)
If preppy’s not your thing, you can always give your dress an edgier twist by pairing it with a leather jacket, black tights and booties. Look to Courtney and Lex‘s looks for more inspiration on the sliding scale of edgy chic.
I promise you, there are ways to breath life back into these dresses. Think about how much fun you had dancing all night with that cute groomsman … well that dress still has some party left in it!
To the bridesmaid-has-beens, go home and try styling one of your old gowns. And all you brides-to-be, give the the Shabby Apple collection a look, your maids really will wear them again. (Emily – I’m lookin’ at you!)…
