Getting Ready for Christmastime in the City

A New York Love Affair :: Holiday Lookbook

Sometimes I feel bad for Thanksgiving. Its time in the sun is so brief before the Christmas music and decorations dominate the scene. Not that I’m any help… I fully admit to putting up my Christmas tree and shopping for my holiday looks immediately come Black Friday.

I mean come on, a girl’s gotta plan right? You don’t just need a Christmas Day outfit. You have Christmas Eve. And your work party. And that get-together with your friends. And a gift exchange with your boo… You can’t blame me for wanting a full month to prepare for the festivities! So for the next few weeks, I’m going to be sharing some holiday inspiration for those of you who like to plan ahead like me.

A New York Love Affair :: Holiday Lookbook

Shirt: Chaps (similar) // Skirt: Express (new version) // Necklace: Purple Peridot // Tights: Ann Taylor // Heels: Aldo (similar) // Clutch: Coach (loving this) // Bracelets: Stella & Dot and Lizzibeth (similar) // Watch: Michael Kors (love) // Ring: Forever 21 (cute option)

Today’s ‘mad for plaid’ lookbook gives this cozy flannel top a dressy twist. I love the rich festive colors and their ‘home for the holidays’ feel, but wanted to class up the look by pairing it with black tights, my favorite midi, and a little bit of bling!

A look like this would be perfect for a friends’mas celebration or a holidate with your man. It checks all the boxes. It’s festive and cute. Dressy, yet current. It allows you to celebrate the season without an ugly sweater or looking like you’re going to your fifth grade class Christmas pageant. It’s the holiday outfit for the modern, working girl.

I love that plaid top with the black full skirt! My parents are in NYC right now (so are Will and Kate!) and I am beyond jealous but I will be there in a couple weeks!

You’re right —- I wish it could be Christmas all year round!! Minus the cold part. And the crowds in Rockefeller part. And the long lines at the stores part. OK, soooo maybe a little break. But 11 months of the year!!!!!

Thanks Jodi! It was a last minute pairing, when what I had originally envisioned didn’t looks as good. I love when that happens! XO

This look is everything. I haven’t pulled out my flannels in what seems like forever, so your post is definitely inspiring me to take another hard look into my closet and re-work some of my older pieces.

You look absolutely amazing (as per usual) and I can’t wait to see your beautiful face again soon!

Too cute! I’ve been looking for a way to rock the plaid shirt I bought for Halloween (I was Beyoncé from Flawless) and you know I’ve had my eye on this skirt for months. I’m SOOO gonna steal your style!
