Today’s photo shoot perfectly captures my feelings about winter and fresh snow – fun for a few minutes and then I’m really over it. By now I’ve worn my knit beanies to death, and my blanket scarves arguably more. My oversized sweaters have been on a consistent weekly rotation since Thanksgiving and my coats are starting to bore me. In 16 days I’m going to be on a beach in Florida and that’s the only thing keeping me going…

So how do I fight this late stage seasonal depression? The only way I know how … repeated doses of bold colors. When the temptation to wear black and grey (and more black) rears its ugly head, try being defiant and dabbling in next season’s brights … like red, which was huge on the red carpet, or pastels which were a focus on the runway at Fashion Week. A little bit of color can go a long way.
Step up your accessories game while your at it too. Big blanket scarves and oversized coats may cover up your neck and wrists, but that still leaves room for a fabulous statement ring or some playful earrings.
In winter, I also find myself loading on the bold lip colors. Its an easy way to brighten up your pale face (oh heyyyy, speak for yourself Elena) and inject some life into your look.
And last but not least, have a little fun for now. Play in the snow. Spring is right around the corner, and you’ll be complaining about April showers soon enough.
