You can travel 1,000 miles — heading from a frozen city on the east coast to a tropical island in the Gulf of Mexico — yet the thing that makes you feel the happiest is also the simplest. Me, a pretty sundress, a bike, a cute boy, and the reward of ice cream. What else can a girl ask for?
Vacation fashion is about wanting to feel like you’re on vacation — even if this sundress wasn’t the most practical choice for our bike ride (fact: it blows up the minute you ride over 2 miles per hour). But it’s beautiful out, I’m wearing a dress if I want to! I need something for my Instagram feed, right?

Wardrobe decisions aside, we did have the greatest little date. After an afternoon sunning at the beach, we explored the resort and found this cute little bridge for pictures. Peter was so patient with me (thank you for taking all these blog pictures on our vacation!). Then we rented some bikes, trekked across the island, and stopped for an obligatory dip cone at DQ. After sufficiently spoiling our dinners, we biked back, and went for a quick walk along the beach before sunset.
It’s important to remember that the most memorable dates don’t have to be the most extravagant. Sure, being on a romantic island with your boyfriend helps, but I loved the simple, childhood feel our bike ride and ice cream afternoon. Remember: even when you’re on vacation, savor the simple things.
