Dear Mother Nature – I know you’ve taught us that April showers bring May flowers, but don’t you think we’ve suffered enough this winter? Do you think maybe you might consider skipping the rain part and going right to the fresh blooms? All of my pretty high heels and brightly colored outfits have been waiting so patiently. Sincerely, A Concerned New Yorker.
I figure that’s what Carrie Bradshaw might do. Write a plea letter to the weather gods begging for a break. Either that or she’d rebel, wearing her Manolos in the rain … probably a patent leather pair, because those are pretty much water resistant, right? Carrie most certainly doesn’t own rain boots.
She’d also probably jump at the first opportunity to wear a brightly colored tutu on a moderately warm spring day. So in honor of a fictional TV character that I very much wish was a real human (but truthfully I pretend like she is anyway), I’m having a Carrie Bradshaw moment in my new Shabby Apple tulle skirt.
Top: Banana Republic (loving this + this) | Skirt: Shabby Apple c/o | Shoes: Ralph Lauren (these are amazing) | Umbrella: Harrods (loving this + this) | Necklace: JCrew (love) | Watch: Michael Kors (similar) | Bracelets: Tiffany & Co. + Paul’s Jewelers (similar)
I’ll be honest, I resisted the tulle-takeover that the blogosphere went through for quite some time. Mostly because I didn’t think I’d have room for a behemoth piece of clothing in my teenie tiny closet. Even though Carrie Bradshaw’s New York apartment seemed sizeable (if not roomy) that is NOT the case for most of us. I also wasn’t quite sure if I’d have an occasion to wear such a skirt.
But what I realized was – do you ever really NEED a reason to wear such a fabulous statement piece? Tulle is fun and playful and can be styled numerous ways. Pair it with a sweater in winter or a screen tee in spring. Make the look edgier with a leather jacket and booties, or class it up with a lace top and heels. It’s your birthday? Wear a tutu if you want tu (see what I did there?). I also think it’s a great option for a more formal event or wedding.
So next time you find yourself cursing the weather or staring into your closet wondering what to wear, ask yourself – what would Carrie Bradshaw do? You’ll realize your options truly are endless.
Hey all! I’m linking up with some fab fashionistas again. Go meet some new bloggers!
