Scarf Game on Fleek

A New York Love Affair :: Lexicon Aspen Scarf

Scarves in the winter make complete and total sense. You’re chilled to the bone cold, and you need that extra feeling of bundled-up-ness (Is that a word? Well it is today). But I’m just going to come out and say what some of you may have already thought – for the longest time I associated spring scarves with old ladies (sorry Grandma, I love ya) … those small silk scarves in traditional prints that were donned by our elders on fancy occasions.

It wasn’t until a few years ago that I noticed how much scarves had permeated younger generations. Not only were they being made out of lighter, more airy materials, but their patterns were becoming bolder and brighter. They weren’t just an utilitarian accessory anymore … they made a statement.

Blazer: Forever 21 (love this) | Scarf: Lexicon of Style | Shirt: Zara (similar) | Pants: The Limited | Shoes: Christian Louboutin | Bag: Lizzibeth (love this) | Watch: Michael Kors (similar) | Bracelets: Lizzibeth (similar) + Stella & Dot + Tiffany & Co.

Now that spring is in full swing, it’s time to kick your scarf game up a notch. Rather than investing in a lot of scarves in solid colors, invest in a few high quality ones with intricate color palettes. Plucking colors out of the patterns and building outfits around them is a great way to keep your wardrobe fresh and fun.

If you really want your scarf game on fleek this season, you’ll have to check out my girl Lex‘s scarves. If there’s one person who proves that scarves are NOT just for old ladies anymore, its her. My latest investment is her GORGEOUS Aspen Scarf. It’s bold, bright, and blends and array of unique colors. See how I style it on this cold winter afternoon and this warm beach day

I chose to play on the burgundy and grey notes of this scarf, allowing the blue to pop in contrast.

{Side note:  burgundy and grey has quickly become one of my favorite combinations (you’re well aware of my burgundy obsession by now). But grey in particular has been replacing nude as a neutral in a number of my latest looks, and I kind of love it.}

Paired together, I thought these pieces created a rich look that enhanced without deterring from the focal point of the scarf. But I can definitely see myself dabbling in a cobalt or turquoise look soon.

    I came to scarves a bit early, I think – when I first went to Paris, all of the most beautiful women were wearing them, so naturally I had to do the same. As a teenager, it made me seem a bit odd to my friends, but I stuck with it – and eventually, it seems, everyone else followed suit. I love the colours of this look, they suit you beautifully.

    OMG – I am such an old lady! OK, so, my styling clients, like 7 years ago, thought I was crazy for wearing scarves in the Summer. I AM OBSESSED with scarfs. I have all my clients buy them as a way to snazz up a tee and denim destroyed shorts or denim shirts and leggings. Yep, that’s what I call “dressing up your lounge wear”. I haven’t worn one on the blog for a while because it makes me look like I have no neck on photographs, but I just bought one at Old Navy yesterday that I will be incorporating soon.

    Thanks for the referral to that amazing site!
