The transition to spring can be a funny time in your wardrobe. If you’re anything like me, you’ve spent the entire winter hibernating in black and grey clothes, and then the minute the first flower blooms … well, so do the florals on your clothing (raise your hand if this sounds like you!)
But for the rest of you that prefer to take a more subtle step into spring, finding a way to meld your dark winter staples with bright spring pieces can be tricky.

One way to bridge the gap is to look for spring prints that have darker accents within the pattern … the easiest accent color being black. Take this killer tribal dress I have on today for example (which is a must-have trend for spring). The pink and white is by no means understated (just the way I like it!), but by anchoring the look in black basics, it’s not so ‘in-your-face-spring’!
Spring is a very Goldilocks time of year — not too hot, not too cold — making it just right for layering. I used this as an opportunity to make my look more casual while also doubling down on black. My leather jacket, bag and gladiators gave my ensemble the perfect balance of winter and spring … plus edgy and bright. #goldilocksapproved
Black may be the easiest color to help transition your spring patterns, but its not the only one at your disposal. Some of my other favorites are navy, burgundy, and grey. What about you? How are you transitioning into spring this year?
