The tail end of summer might be the toughest time for wardrobes everywhere. By now, you’ve worn your summer clothes to death, so I guarantee you’re staring into your closet with severe wardrobe paralysis — the
very real unfounded belief that you have nothing to wear (no need to deny it, this is a safe space). The answer shouldn’t be “that’s OK I’ll just go buy something new”. And even if that was your cure, stores are already in full-blown fall mode, and the weather is still just too warm for all those lovely layers.
This is when you need to think outside the box a little bit … conjure up some sartorial magic that will pull together new looks worth celebrating! Remember when I blew your mind with the two-in-one dress? Today I’m taking another page from that
playbook spell book, and turning my maxi dress into a skirt!
Dress (skirt): Eliza J | Top: Banana Republic | Belt: Francesca’s | Clutch: Dor L’Dor | Necklace: Rocksbox | Watch: March Jacobs | Bracelet: Stella & Dot
You may recognize this print from my trip to Sanibel earlier this year. Don’t get me wrong, it is a fabulous standalone dress (which is currently on sale!), but apart from throwing a sweater or jacket over it, there’s not much you can do to switch up the look. Unless … you force yourself to get a little creative!
I folded the top half of the dress inward, turning the dress into a maxi skirt! Since the pattern is so bold and playful on it’s own, I picked a simple navy tank as my look’s “new” top. Throw on a belt to keep everything together and voila! A whole new look.
Don’t let negativity in the morning win! There is always something to wear, and always a new way to wear it! As much as I condone shopping (I am the best shopping partner if you want help rationalizing pretty much any purchase), there are definitely
cheaper free solutions out there if you just experiment.
