September New York Fashion Week is the hardest week of the year to dress for. Forget about all the pressure to strut your stuff in a killer look each day. I’m talking more about the seasonal schizophrenia we face with our wardrobes. NYFW takes place in fall … but the weather still feels more like summer … and the collections we’re seeing are all for spring. I know, I’m lost too.

So what season do you dress for? Let me ask you – do you really have to decide? Don’t pigeonhole yourself! Pair together pieces that straddle the sartorial calendar. The easiest way to do this is to pick warm weather pieces in autumn-appropriate colors. Take this green satin skirt for example. You better believe I’ll be wearing this up until the first frost, but when styled with a simple cream crop top, I can still beat the early September heat in a chic way.
