NYFW ~ Day Two Look

A New York Love Affair :: NYFW Day 2

A New York Love Affair :: Nicole Miller Show

I told you last week I’d be stepping out of my comfort zone for NYFW … way out side my comfort zone for the record … and here I am. Baring it all (or at least it feels that way to me). But what a better stage to do that than fashion week?

I have my girl Stephanie (from Nicole Miller) to thank for the style suggestions. After hooking me up with tickets to Friday’s runway show, she suggested I stop in beforehand to get styled for the event. Since I never miss an excuse to shop (and truthfully was way behind in my NYFW outfit planning at the time) I popped into their SoHo store for a style session.

Many of you may not realize (I know I was surprised), but Nicole Miller is not just evening wear and bridal. She has an entire collection of chic, ready-to-wear pieces and I could not wait to find something to wear front row at the show.

After grabbing a few pieces myself, Stephanie picked out this culotte jumpsuit with a dramatic plunging neckline. I was instantly skeptical, sharing my doubts with her, but she insisted I try it on … first.

I am generally pretty conservative when it comes to showing off my … ummm assets, always self-conscious when I feel like I’m revealing too much. But the minute I put this jumpsuit on I felt different. For the first time, I felt really confident I could rock it.

The key was balance. The deep neckline and fitted top was offset by a wide culotte leg, and by adding a leather jacket to complete the look I felt a little less exposed. After all, it is winter out there.

This experience taught me to be confident with what you’ve got. And that sometimes, it OK to flaunt it. In a tasteful, put together way. I’m proud that two months in to my New Year’s resolution I’m continuing to push the boundaries, and I think NYFW symbolizes a big turning point in my style journey.

Be sure to keep stopping by this week for more NYFW looks and recaps!
