Our Wedding Day ~ Pre-Ceremony Preparations

When you’re engaged, people will tell you that your wedding day will be the best day of your life. They are 100% right! There have been so many times over the last 5 months that I’ve looked at Peter and said, “can we just do it all over again?” It really was the BEST day. I wish we could throw another fabulous party like that, with all our loved ones under one roof celebrating with us. Instead I just keep reliving the day through our amazing wedding photos (by Olga Thomas) that I can’t wait to share with you. I will be releasing them in batches so you can get a feel of the day I became Mrs. Bukowski, starting with the photos of us getting ready.

Getting Ready

Finding a location to dress, do our makeup and hair, was actually one of the more stressful parts of wedding planning. My mom’s house in the suburbs was big enough but not convenient, and the hotels in Milwaukee were convenient but not big enough. Plus, I wanted it to photograph well and be a place I could relax and have fun with my girls.

We had a Goldie Locks problem. We needed something just right.

Luckily my wedding coordinator (The Bride Consultant) had the idea to Airbnb an awesome loft apartment near our venue. The space was beautifully decorated, had lots of natural light, and plenty of space for all the ladies to get ready. We had champagne, mimosas, and light bites for the gals, all while getting pampered by the hair and makeup team.

My Hair and Makeup

Dana Welch and her team did an extraordinary job on my hair and makeup. I don’t tend to wear a lot of makeup day-to-day, so I wanted my wedding makeup to feel light and natural, but still wedding appropriate. I went back and forth on how to do my hair. I rarely wear it up, but I also wanted to show off the back of my dress (when you see my dress, you’ll see why!). Ultimately I decided on a low chignon/bun with some pieces framing my face.

My Ladies

One of the best parts of the morning was being surrounded by my favorite women. All the gals wore adorable robes from Plum Pretty Sugar (linked here), and the pictures turned out great. You’ll get a closer look at their bridesmaid dresses later, but I included a sneak peek of them in their long, dusty blue gowns by Theia.¬†Also, cuteness overload with our flower girls!

Can’t Forget the Gents

The boys got dressed at Peter’s parents condo downtown. Their grey suits and pink ties perfectly complimented the ladies in dusty blue. I don’t think they had champagne and mimosas, but it does look like the had some fun. How handsome is my groom … and our ring bearer?

Putting on My Dress

The dress! I said yes to this Maggie Sottero dress at Kleinfield’s with my mom back in January. It was a magical moment, full of happy tears and so many emotions. That said, it was even more magical stepping into that perfectly tailored gown the morning of my wedding.

I wanted to share this special moment privately with my mom, and I’m so glad I did. She helped me loop all the delicate buttons, and got to see me take my first full twirl in the dress.
