Our Wedding Day ~ Wedding Ceremony

Happy Wedding Wednesday everyone! Seeing as it has been over 10 months since our wedding, its about time I post the rest of our photos. A few months ago I shared our “getting ready” photos. Next up: our wedding ceremony.

The Venue:  Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church

The Greek Orthodox religion has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. In Milwaukee, there were two Greek churches, and ironically, I grew up going to other one! When it came to picking our wedding day, I was so concerned with locking down our reception venue that I didn’t check the church’s availability. I thought to myself, it’s a small community, what are the odds of someone picking our day? Well, guess what – someone did! Fortunately, the sister church was available and in hindsight I am so happy we got married there. It is so traditionally beautiful, and the priest presiding over our ceremony is such a lovely man. We didn’t decorate with too many flowers, letting the vibrant colors of church speak for themselves.

Family First Look

Peter and I are a bit traditional, and we didn’t want to see each other before I walked down the aisle. That said, I loved the idea of a first look with family. I was able to steal a few moments before the ceremony to see the moms, grandmothers, and of course, my dad. I’m definitely a Daddy’s girl, and my dad and I instantly burst into tears when we saw each other. It was such a special moment…

The Ceremony

There is so much beautiful symbolism in the Greek Orthodox ceremony, centered around Christ, the Holy Spirit, and unity. A number of the rituals are repeated three times, back and forth between the bride and the groom, signifying that in married life, the weakness of one partner will be compensated for by the strength of the other. And ultimately, we are reminded that we are incomplete by ourselves, but together through marriage, we are made whole.

And of course – our first kiss as Mr. and Mrs. Bukowski!

Husband & Wife!

From the minute they pronounced us husband and wife and for the rest of the night, we were both smiling from ear to ear. It was the happiest moment of my life, getting to marry my best friend surrounded by everyone we love. We even managed our grand exit and the throwing of rice right before the skies opened up and it began to pour…

Family Portraits

Brides-to-be…be prepared to take A LOT of photos on your wedding day. But more importantly, make sure your grooms are up for the task! I am so thankful we took the time to get great family portraits, and all the shots with our wedding party. These are moments and memories we will cherish forever. Here are a few of my favorites from the church.
