Outfit Diaries from France

Packing for a 10+ day vacation is tough, no matter how much you plan. I had an especially hard time packing for our trip to France because we had elements of city (Paris), country (Avignon), and beach (Antibes) in our itinerary. Naturally I wanted to have options, but didn’t want to over-pack as a result. Peter and I managed to pack everything into two carry-ons and one normal suitcase (MUCH better than our honeymoon) and based on all your feedback I’m sharing my favorite looks from the trip and where you can shop them.

Paris

My travel goal? Do not look like a tourist. Bonus points if someone asks you for directions! The key to accomplishing this is refusing to trade in style for comfort. You can absolutely look chic and put-together while still being comfortable for a full day of sightseeing. The best way to do this is to pack light comfy layers and ‘tres chic’ accessories. End result? Someone thought we were locals and asked us for help. Mission accomplished!

Daytime Look #1

Bringing a backpack was one of the best decisions I made on this trip. It is much more spacious than a purse, easily fitting our DSLR camera and other essentials, and also allowed me to be hands free. Peter and I alternated who was on backpack duty throughout the trip, which also helped.

Daytime Look #2

Slouchy pants + layers are ideal for touristing. For one, these pants are incredibly comfortable and leave a little wiggle room for those large French lunches. A boyfriend blazer was also great to throw on for those chillier Parisien mornings.

Daytime Look #3

Light jersey dresses were another favorite of mine in Paris. They are an easy way to stay cool, while also feeling put together. Pair them with a comfortable slip-on sneaker (like these amazing ones from Cole Haan), and you can pull off city-chic no problem!

Daytime Look #4

Things warmed up near the end of our time in Paris, so I finally got to wear some of my warm weather clothes. Try wearing a pair of paper bag waist shorts  (like these from Zara) to give the ole “shorts and a tee” look an upgrade.

Evening Look #1

I hate to admit it, but dressing for Paris was more intimidating than dressing for New York. I packed every black, red, and white item I owned, in hopes of looking even half as chic as the beautiful Parisien women. This red jumpsuit made me feel 100, and its currently 40% off.

Evening Look #2

This is one of the most versatile dresses I own, and I couldn’t wait to wear it in France. Pair it with heels or a blazer, and your are set for an evening in the city. Dress it down with sandals and a straw bag, and you are ready for dinner on the beach. Everyone needs a dress like this in their wardrobe (did I mention its currently on sale?).

Evening Look #3

Picking up on my red theme here? This is a dress I bought for our honeymoon, and couldn’t wait to re-wear in Paris. Lucky for you, its also on sale!

Dress: Club Monaco || Bag: Chanel || Heels: Jessica Simspson

Evening Look #4

I’m embarrassed to admit that I took the tags off this dress for the first time in Paris, after owning it for over 4 years! Better late than never for its debut. I wore this on our last night in Paris, for one of the nicest dinners of our trip. Unfortunately I have scoured the earth

Avignon

Avignon is the loveliest little town in the countryside of Southern France. Our days consisted of winery tours and cooking classes, while our evenings centered around decadent dinners. I found myself reaching for lots of rompers and sundresses during the day, and more romantic floral pieces in the evening. Sharing a few of my favorite looks below.

Look #1

This cotton sundress was perfect for a day of wine-tasting – and it’s currently on sale for under $50.

Look #2

This floral number is a favorite of mine from the summer. It comes in a number of colors, can easily be dressed down or up depending on the occasion, and is currently on sale. I wore it for a lovely dinner al fresco on our first night in Provence.

Dress: Aritizia (exact linked here, comes in solid colors too) || Shoes: Soludos || Clutch: Salvatore Ferragamo

Look #3

This is my first purchase from the Gal Meets Glam collection. Julia’s dresses are so wonderfully feminine and such high quality – I highly recommend. This one felt very “European countryside” so of course I bought it specifically for the trip. Keep an eye on them, because they tend to go on sale after a few months.

French Riviera

Packing for the beach part of the trip was the easiest part – seeing as I am a professional beach vacationer. As you can imagine, I lived in swimsuits, rompers and sundresses in Antibes. Below are a few of my favorite looks for you to shop – sunshine and sand not included.

Look #1

This is another easy sundress that can be worn day or night. I wore this one for our beach-side dinner the first night, and dressed it up with some fun earrings and chunky heels (which I ditched for the photo – not ideal for rock climbing). Much like everything else from my suitcase, it’s currently on sale for around $50.

Dress: AQUA || Bag: Urban Outfitters || Earrings: small NYC boutique

Look #2

Have you ever found something you love so much, you buy it in 3 colors? For me that’s this romper. I have it in 2 different shades of blue, as well as classic black. Two of the colors are currently on sale, and I highly recommend you snag one.

Romper: Club Monaco || Sandals: Tory Burch || Sunnies: DIFF Eyewear

Look #3

I’m ready for the French Riviera resort life in this preppy nautical look. Get these amazing wide-legged crop pants on sale while you can.

Pants: Club Monaco || Bodysuit: J.Crew || Sandals: Tory Burch || Bag: Urban Outfitters || Hat: Minuty (similar below)
